Athirapally falls
Athirapally is a beautiful scenic place located in the Thrissur district
of Gods own Country Kerala and is situated at a distance of 60 km from the Thrissur city. Positioned at an elevation of 1000 feet above the level of sea, it is situated on the entry point of the Sholayar Ranges of Western Ghats on the river of Chalakudy. The gorgeous site of water that falls from the height of 80 feet high from the top of this falls ending into the brook like formation down is truly exhilarating.
The enormous and gigantic voice of the fall can be heard far away from the forest area while trekking. One can also visit the herbal gardens located nearby this falls which are supposed to have some curative properties.
Forest Area
Located near the matchless Western Ghats, this forest area teems with wide range of floras and faunas. The other residents include the tribals known as Kodars who are skilled in collecting wax, sago, honey and spices like cardamom and ginger.
The Athirapally-Vazhachal forest division is the only place in the Western Ghats where all the four types of Hornbill can be seen. The International Bird Association has declared this area as an important site for birds.
Vazhachal Falls
